FAQ
General questions about floor selection
1. What is the difference between vinyl, laminate and parquet flooring?
Parquet flooring is made of real wood and is particularly high-quality and durable. Laminate flooring consists of wood fiberboard with a decorative foil and is robust and easy to care for. Vinyl flooring is made of plastic or SPC (rigid vinyl flooring) and is valued for its water resistance, ease of maintenance, and flexibility during installation.
2. How do I find the right flooring for damp rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens?
For damp rooms , vinyl flooring with a waterproof core board (e.g., SPC) and special moisture-resistant laminate flooring are particularly suitable. Please check the manufacturer's approval for use in damp rooms on the respective product pages.
3. Which types of flooring are suitable for underfloor heating?
Many vinyl and laminate floors, as well as certain types of parquet, are suitable for underfloor heating systems. It's important that the flooring is labeled "approved for underfloor heating." You can also find this information specifically on each product page to ensure compatibility.
4. What is the advantage of click vinyl over glue-down vinyl?
Click vinyl flooring can be installed quickly and easily without glue – ideal for renovations. Adhesive vinyl is thinner and suitable for high-traffic areas, but requires a level subfloor and more effort during installation. Click vinyl is easier for homeowners and can be installed without a professional.
5. Is vinyl flooring safe for your health?
Our vinyl floors are all phthalate-free, low-emission, healthy for living spaces, and can be installed without any concerns. You can find more detailed information in the individual product descriptions – we've listed everything there!
6. How scratch-resistant or durable is vinyl/laminate?
Vinyl is elastic, scratch-resistant, and very durable. Laminate is also robust, especially in higher usage classes. You can identify the durability by the specified usage class (always indicated as NK in the product descriptions). Our products are therefore also ideally suited for homes with pets and small children.
7. Which flooring is particularly easy to care for and allergy-friendly?
Vinyl and laminate flooring are both easy to care for, as they can simply be vacuumed and damp-mopped. Smooth, seamless surfaces are particularly allergy-friendly, as they offer no foothold for dust and mites. Using our "Joint Type" search function, you can filter all products by your desired joint type (e.g., "no joint"). Click here !
8. What is a usage class?
The usage class indicates the level of stress a floor is suitable for. For example: NK 23 = heavy residential use, NK 32 = medium commercial use, NK 42 = industrial use. The higher the number, the more durable the floor.
Questions about the relocation
9. Can I lay the flooring myself or do I need a professional?
Many modern floor coverings, such as click vinyl or click laminate, are designed for self-installation. With a little DIY skill and the right tools, you can install them yourself without a professional. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us or read more information here .
10. How does a click system work?
With the click system, the planks are slotted together without glue. They click into place laterally or end-to-end by gently angling or pressing them together. This ensures a secure hold and quick, easy installation. Click here for installation instructions!
11. Do I need impact sound insulation?
Yes, with floating installation (click flooring), impact sound insulation is usually necessary – unless the floor already has integrated insulation (all our vinyl floors have integrated impact sound insulation!). It reduces walking noise and improves walking comfort.
12. Does the surface require any special preparation?
Yes, the surface should be level, clean, dry, and load-bearing. Minor unevenness can be corrected with leveling compound. Carpet must be removed beforehand.
13. What does “floating installation” mean?
The flooring is not glued or screwed to the subfloor, but simply laid loosely. The planks rest only on the impact sound insulation and are connected to each other via a click system.
14. How long should the floor acclimatize before installation?
The flooring should be stored in its closed packaging in the installation room for 24–48 hours. This allows it to acclimatize to the temperature and humidity, preventing subsequent stress or warping. Further installation instructions can be found here .
15. What should I do if there are uneven areas in the ground?
Minor unevenness (up to approximately 2 mm per meter) can be compensated for with suitable shims. Larger unevenness should be filled with a leveling compound to create a stable base for the floor.
Questions about care and durability
16. How do I properly clean and maintain vinyl or laminate flooring?
Both types of flooring are easy to clean: vacuum or sweep, then damp mop – without harsh cleaners or lots of water. Special cleaning products for vinyl or laminate will keep the surface looking beautiful for longer.
17. Are the floors suitable for pets?
Yes, high-quality vinyl and laminate flooring are robust, scratch-resistant, and easy to clean – ideal for households with dogs or cats. Look for a high usage rating and a durable surface.
18. How resistant are the floors to moisture and scratches?
Vinyl is very moisture-resistant and suitable for kitchens and bathrooms (depending on the specific product). Laminate is also robust, but should not be exposed to prolonged moisture. Both are scratch-resistant if they are of good quality – vinyl is often slightly more so.
19. How long does a vinyl or laminate floor last?
Depending on usage and quality, the lifespan is approximately 10–30 years. Our high-quality products often come with long-term manufacturer's warranties, especially for private use.
20. Can I remove and reinstall the flooring if I move?
Yes, click-system flooring can usually be removed without leaving any residue. Reinstallation is possible, provided the planks remain undamaged during removal. Ideal for rental apartments or temporary solutions.
Product and order questions
21. Can I order samples before I decide?
Yes, you can order FREE samples from us here to check the color, feel and quality of the flooring in advance – conveniently delivered to your home.
Something truly special , only at Laminatwunder : You receive a pack of three samples for every sample selection (e.g., the Prenzlau Oak sample). This means you can lay a specific sample in your own home as a test, creating a staggered pattern and seeing the cross joints beforehand. When choosing flooring, it's crucial to see how the floor looks with the joints.
22. How many additional square meters should I plan for?
Plan for approximately 5% waste – depending on the room layout, laying pattern, and your experience. For sloping walls or many corners, allow for a little more. You can use our calculator for each product. If desired, it will automatically calculate the 5% waste and tell you exactly how many packs you need for your desired area. It's that easy!
23. Is there a warranty on the flooring?
Yes, many manufacturers offer warranties of 10 to 30 years, depending on the product – usually tiered for private and commercial use. You can find exact details with the respective products.
24. What formats and designs are available?
Our floors are available in numerous formats – e.g. planks, wide planks, long planks, herringbone or tile look – as well as in many decors: from classic wood to stone look to modern designs.
25. What does "4V joint" mean and what is it good for?
The 4V groove is a bevel on all four sides of the plank. It creates a natural, visually distinct plank look – just like real parquet flooring. With our free sample service , you can easily see the groove for yourself at home!
26. How does the calculator on the product details page work?
1. Enter your desired area in the empty field (e.g., how many m² you need for your living room).
2. (Optional) Click the checkbox. This will cause our calculator to include a 5% allowance for waste, which is always recommended.
3. Now our calculator outputs the following:
- Included per package: This is a fixed square meter figure that does not change. It indicates how many square meters of soil are contained in one package. You can also find this figure in the product description.
- Required packages as area: Please note : This area is calculated based on the number of packages required and not simply from your required area plus waste. This is therefore the area you will actually receive if you order the number of packages specified below. Example calculation: 50 m² are needed (+5% for waste). Each package contains 1.7523 m². We therefore calculate (50/100%) * 5% for waste = 2.5 m² extra for waste. With this waste factored in, we need 52.5 m² of flooring for our area. So we calculate 52.5 m² / 1.7523 m² per package = number of packages required --> 29.96 packages = rounded up to 30 packages we need. The area you will actually receive is then: 30 packages * 1.7523 m² per package = 52.569 m². This is how this value is calculated.
- Number of packages required: This value indicates how many packages you should order for your entered area. In the calculation example above, this value would be 30 packages.
- Total price of the packages: This value indicates the total price of the packages, which will also be displayed at checkout.
